General information about the association

The Swedish Association of Nurse Anesthetists and Intensive Care Nurses was founded in 1962 in Gothenburg by nurse anesthestists from all over Sweden. The association is a non-profit organization for nurses in anesthesia, intensive care and closely associated nursing areas. The association collaborates with the Swedish Association of Health Professionals (Vårdförbundet).

Purpose

The association is dedicated to promoting and supporting research, development and education in anesthesia and intensive care nursing.

Annual meeting

The association has an annual meeting to discuss and decide upon the motions of its members. The board decides the time and place of the meeting, which must take place before the 30th of June. All motions must be presented to the board at least 30 days prior to the meeting. It is, then, the board that presents and comments on these motions at the annual meeting. Also, during the annual meeting, new board members, accountant committee members and editorial committee members are elected.

The Board

The board consists of a president, a vice president and seven other members. The term of office for a board member is two years.
The boardmembers are elected at the annual meeting. It is a wish that the members of the board represent different branches in the area of interest as well as different parts of the country.

Election Committee

The association has an election committee that recruits and nominates persons for the board and for the committees.

Conferenses

The association arranges two conferenses per year. One in the spring where different hospitals throughout the country handles the practical arrangements and are local hosts for the conference. The one in the autumn is located to the capital of Sweden - Stockholm.
The program development director of the board is responsible for the conference, and the board are hosting the arrangement. Usually the conferences covers two days and offers the participants various lectures on current topics. Besides the lectures the conference are an excellent oppertunity to meet collegues from all over the country and discuss various professional subjects.

Membership Publication

The association with its editorial committee publishes the journal "AN-IVA Ventilen" four times per year. The journal are covering current research and development in the area anesthesia and intensive care - national as well as international. Members of the association gets the journal free. The journal has an edition of 6 000 copies presently (1997).

Research Scholarship

The association´s research scholarship of 25.000 SEK is awarded yearly to one research student.

Nordic and International Cooperation

Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Iceland have a Nordic cooperation between the anesthetists- and intensive care nursing associations. Each nordic country has a contact person. The contact persons meet twice a year to share the experience which each has gained and to discuss current issues of common interest. The Swedish Association of Nurse Anesthetists and Intensive Care Nurses is a current member of IFNA (International Federation of Nurse Anesthetists).

Members

The annual membership fee is, presently, 250 SEK.
